I may not be a huge hip-hop fan but I still like some of it. I recently came across a great track by Canadian hip-hopper, Shad (aka Shadrach Kabango) who I've never heard of up to this point. What I like about Shad is the simplicity. He doesn't over complicate his songs with ridiculous beats, they're just simple and catchy.

Home Town Rockstar
My friend Jonnie sent me the link to his bands video premiere the other day and I honestly felt like a proud mother. For as long as I've known Jonnie, making a career from music has been his soul purpose in life and he's finally well on his way with Age of Daze. I've been told that "Afflicted" is currently on light rotation on Much Music (Canada's music station) and of course the single has been heavily played on Fredericton's local rock radio 105.3 The Fox.

It's entirely possible that I'm the only person in the world that held onto their love for Presidents of the United States of America (PUSA) after their decline in the 1990's but I don't regret it for one second. With blues legend Buddy Guy and "otherworldly" guitarist Derek Trucks already announced, New Brunswick's biggest annual music festival made a huge announcement today with the signing of million-selling British pop-rockers, Bloc Party.
After performing this summer at Chicago’s Lollapalooza and Toronto’s Virgin Festival, the critically acclaimed British band will make their East Canadian debut in Fredericton on Saturday, September 13, 2008. Storming onto the scene in 2005 with their debut album Silent Alarm, Bloc Party spent 69 weeks on the UK’s top album charts. The record, which included the singles “Banquet” and “Helicopter”, raced up the charts in 17 countries around the world, was declared Album of the Year by NME Magazine, and went on to sell one million copies worldwide.
Returning with their follow up A Weekend in the City, singer Kele Okereke, guitarist Russell Lissack, bassist Gordon Moakes and drummer Matt Tong teamed up with producer Jacknife Lee (U2, Snow Patrol) to create 11 electrifying and staggeringly direct tracks that chronicle post-millennial Britain.
“It's a great endorsement of the unique event that we've created here in Fredericton," says Staeben.
